The Hamster Diaries: a Short Update

I'm back! The last 6 weeks were weirdly chaotic- in the midst of dental surgeon visits, a last minute trip to Switzerland, celebrating awesome people's birthdays while partially looking like the swollen version of Harry Potters' Aunt Marge, I had a mini writers block and total lack of concentration. Very annoying. But I'm back! I promise to post new blogs weekly again, got a lot of stories in my head waiting to be written down- like the time I decided to jump off a mountain (with a parachute) on Friday the 13th and looked like Bridget Jones trying to land gracefully. Or the time my brother and I had a ski lesson from a very tan guy who kept losing me along the way down. Or maybe about hydrospeeding in Chile when the river was a lot wilder than I hoped?

Like I said, I've got some typing to do! But first a quick update about the last few weeks...

Six weeks ago I had the pleasure of having two wisdom teeth pulled in one appointment (and of course it got infected within hours) so I spent two weeks looking like a sad hamster (half a hamster to be more specific) and feeling a bit sorry for myself. Even now, weeks later, I still have a rather masculine jawline (..half a masculine jawline). Since chewing is still a bit of a challenge I haven't been able to fully enjoy what I love to do: eating! And testing recipes without being able to taste them is no fun, so I have a lot of cooking to do the next few weeks!

My mother and I decided to enjoy the last days of Summer/first days of Fall in the Swiss mountains. Unfortunately my hamster cheek cast a shadow (literally and figuratively) on the first few days: I was in a lot of pain. Luckily there was a great doctor nearby and with a little help from a bag full of antibiotics and painkillers, I was able to accompany my mom (who was making fun of my face the whole time by the way) on some hikes. It was great to soak up some sunshine and we even witnessed the first real snow fall off the season!

After taking a break from babysitting the last two years, I decided to put on my Mary Poppins hat again and meet Elsa and her family. She's a witty 4 year old and loves to negociate (about everything), the movie 'Frozen' ('Do you wanna build a Snowman' is now stuck in my head 24/7) and puzzles. It's very refreshing to see the world from the eyes of a kindergartener and with the never ending 'WHY?', Wikipedia is my new BFF. I took her to a museum on a day off and after seeing a variety of animal bones, she now wants to become... a forensic pathologist. Whoops.
